The 1st Glocal Chaoshan Symposium and Chaoshan Culture Festival
From November 22nd to 23rd, 2013, four research centers in the College of Liberal Arts at Shantou University will host a joint project, entitled “The Glocal Chaoshan Symposium and Chaoshan Culture Festival.” The organizing theme of “Glocal Chaoshan” acknowledges the region’s importance in the world, the vibrant overseas ChaoshanChinese communities, Chaoshan’s role as a contact zone between China and other countries, and the influence of outside forces on the region.
As a main part of this project, schorlars from Hanshan Normal College, Singapore National University, Fudan University as well as Shantou University will share their researches at the Symposium, which consists the following three thematic sessions: Global and Transnational Chaoshan Studies, Chaoshan Women and Gender, Chaoshan Dialect and Religious Tradition.
During the symposium, STU students also prepare activities for the “Chaoshan Culture Festival” to provide diverse experience of Chaoshan culture, including Chaoshanese songs, Chaoshan opera, Kongfu Tea, photo exhibition of traditional Chaoshan architectures, etc.
