STU Hosts Asia Association for Global Studies 9th Annual Conference
ETHICS IN A GLOBALIZING WORLD: DEBATES AND DILEMMAS
9th International Conference of the Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS)
The 9th International Conference of the Asia Association for Global Studies will be held in Shantou University in March 22-23, 2014. The conference will be organized by the Asia Association for Global Studies and hosted by Center for Global Studies, College of Liberal Arts, Shantou University.
As transnational and cross-cultural exchanges become increasingly commonplace in our rapidly shrinking world, conflicts over values and beliefs are bound to arise, despite efforts to the contrary. Issues and crises in individual nations meanwhile can have implications that traverse borders and even span the entire globe. Labor exploitation by multinational corporations, human trafficking, wars, famines, environmental degradation, racial discrimination, and other pressing concerns subsequently require not only local but also global responses. In such a global context, what ethical values should inform regulatory frameworks, decision-making processes, political/economic/humanitarian interventions, and general interactions? What responsibilities and rights can we speak of in our globalizing world, if any? Is a global ethic possible or needed in a world of diversity? These and other questions will be explored at the 9th international conference of the Asia Association for Global Studies (AAGS) on March 22-23, 2014 at Shantou University.
Our guest speakers are from different countries around the world, including Germany, Japan, UK, USA, India and Romania. With participants from different background, this conference is supposed to provoke different thinking and ideas.
