英语语言中心

汕头大学英语语言中心成立于2003年8月，现为文学院核心教学单位，承担全校大学英语教学及相关课程建设工作。中心坚持以学生发展为中心，致力于构建开放、多元、富有创新活力的英语学习生态，着力培养学生的英语语言应用能力、自主学习能力、跨文化交际能力、批判性思维能力与可持续发展能力，为学生的学业发展、国际交流和未来职业发展提供有力支持。

中心拥有一支专业素养扎实、教学经验丰富、具有国际视野的师资队伍，现有专任教师44人，其中博士9人。立足学生不同的专业背景与发展需求，中心构建了分层分类、衔接递进的大学英语课程体系，课程涵盖通用英语、通用学术英语、专门用途英语（ESP）及多类特色选修课程，并积极推进混合式教学与人工智能赋能教学等改革创新，将语言学习、思维训练、跨文化沟通与数字素养有机融入课程教学。

中心注重课堂教学与第二课堂协同育人，面向学生开展英语沙龙、英语角、英语辩论、英语创意活动、学生英语报刊、外国语言文化工作坊等多样化语言实践活动，并组织、指导学生参加各级各类英语竞赛，为学生创造更多真实、多元的语言运用、交流与展示机会。相关活动覆盖桑浦山和东海岸两个校区，为不同校区学生提供便捷、共享的英语学习资源与实践平台。

中心建设并运营语言自主学习中心 CILL (Center for Independent Language Learning)，面向全校学生提供自主学习空间、外语学习资源、专题讲座及个性化语言学习支持。结合两校区特点，CILL持续完善线上线下融合的自主学习支持体系，服务涵盖英语写作、口语交流、演讲表达、雅思备考及竞赛辅导等内容，并积极探索智能学习工具在语言自主学习中的应用，为学生提供更加灵活、个性化和可持续的语言学习支持。

English Language Center, Shantou University

Established in August 2003, the English Language Center (ELC) is a core teaching unit within the College of Liberal Arts at Shantou University. The ELC provides university-wide English language education and develops courses and programs designed to meet students’ evolving academic and professional needs. With student development at the heart of its mission, the Center fosters an open, diverse, and innovative learning environment that develops students’ English proficiency, independent learning skills, intercultural communication skills, critical thinking, and capacity for lifelong learning, preparing them for academic study, international engagement, and future careers.

The ELC has 44 full-time faculty members, including nine with doctoral degrees, bringing togetherstrong professional expertise, extensive teaching experience, and international perspectives. Tomeet the needs of students from diverse academic backgrounds, the Center offers a structured andprogressive curriculum encompassing General English, English for General Academic Purposes(EGAP), English for Specific Purposes (ESP), and a range of distinctive elective courses. The ELCcontinues to advance blended and Al-enhanced learning, integrating language development withcritical thinking, intercultural communication, and digital literacy.

Learning at the ELC extends well beyond the classroom. Students can take part in a wide range oflanguage and cultural activities, including the English Lounge, the English Corner, the English Debate Society, the Creative Expressive Club, Shantou Beat, and foreign language and cultureworkshops. The Center also organizes and supports student participation in English competitions atvarious levels. Offered across both the Sangpu and East Coast campuses, these activities provide students with authentic opportunities to use English, exchange ideas, and showcase their abilities.

The ELC also operates the Center for Independent Language Learning (CILL), which providesstudents across the university with dedicated learning spaces, language-learning resources,workshops and lectures, and personalized language learning support. Through an integrated online and face-to-facesupport system serving both campuses, CILL offers support in English writing, spokencommunication, public speaking and presentations, IELTS preparation, and English competitions. CILL also explores the use of Al and other intelligent learning tools to make independent language learning more flexible, personalized, and sustainable.
